In a dramatic turn of events, AIUDF’s second-in-command Aminul Islam has joined the Congress in the presence of senior leader Jitendra Singh, marking yet another swift shift in his political allegiance.
At least 67 candidates withdrew their nominations for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections on Thursday, including a legislator from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) who had recently switched to the National People’s Party (NPP).
AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was arrested on Thursday for allegedly making controversial remarks about the recent Pahalgam incident, in which 26 people were killed in a terrorist attack.
Aminul Islam will be contesting against Pradyut Bordoloi from the Congress party and Suresh Bora from the Bharatiya Janata party, who has secured the Saffron Party ticket for the constituency.
