Assam and Meghalaya to meet MHA on March 9 to finalize 1st phase of border agreement

Shillong, March 1: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will hold a meeting with the Assam and Meghalaya governments on March 9, to finalize the border agreement on the six of the twelve areas of difference shared between the two states.

Informing this on Monday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the border talks will take place on March 9 in Delhi.

“I just got the information two hours back and I have been told that the meeting will be held on March 9,” he said.

On January 29, Sangma and his counterpart Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had finalized the border agreement at their level on the first six areas of difference.

The six areas of difference under the first phase include Tarabari (4.69 sq km), Gizang (13.53 sq km), Hahim (3.51 sq km), Boklapara (1.57 sq kms), Khanapara-Pilangkata (2.29 sq kms) and Ratacherra (11.20 sq kms).
