Guwahati, Mar 16: Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has announced that the state has attracted investments exceeding more than Rs 13,000 crore in the past 14 months.
These investments are set to create employment opportunities for more than 17,000 individuals. The investments came through 21 proposals approved by the state cabinet under the Industrial and Investment Policy of Assam 2019.
It needs to be mentioned that the IIPA was amended in 2023 to encourage mega investments of Rs 100 crore or more, which promises permanent jobs for 200 or more people.
It is important to note that seven agreements were recently signed, adding to the 14 signed previously. These agreements are expected to generate over 6,500 jobs with an investment of a humongous Rs 2,000 crore.
It is noteworthy that companies such as PepsiCo India, Star Cement, Jericho Chemicals, Indian Hotels Company Ltd, Maxim Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, and Topcem India LLP are among those that have committed to do mega investments in Assam.
