Guwahati, May 10: Sahar Ali Sikdar, the in-charge Block Development Officer (BDO) of Matia under Dudhnoi LAC in Goalpara District, was arrested today by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption sleuths for allegedly accepting a bribe from a complainant.
The arrest was made while the BDO allegedly accepted Rs 5000 as a bribe in exchange for clearing pending bills. The Vigilance team caught him red-handed while accepting the bribe.
According to reports, he will be taken to Guwahati Head Office of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Branch for further questioning and investigation.
The Vigilance department informed about the operation in a tweet stating, “Today @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red-handed Sahar Ali Sikdar, Block Development Officer (In-charge), Matia Development Block, District- Goalpara after he accepted bribe in his office from the complainant for payment of pending bills.”
Notably, despite many such instances of government officials and employees being caught by the state’s Vigilance and Anti-Corruption branch, many officials still engage in corrupt practices.
