Guwahati, Nov 23: BJP has won one seat and was leading in two seats as results were announced for the 5 constituencies that went for bye-elections recently. The other two seats have gone to BJP allies United People’s Party, Liberal (UPPL) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).
BJP has won the Behali seat while it was leading in Dholai and Samaguri. UPPL has won the Sidli seat and AGP has won the Bongaigaon seat.
BJP’s Diganta Ghatowal won the Behali seat by a margin of 9,051 votes. He polled 50,947 votes whereas his nearest rival Jayanta Borah of Congress polled 41,896 votes.
Diptimayee Choudhury of AGP won the Bongaigaon seat with a huge margin of 35,164 votes. She secured 74,734 votes whereas her nearest rival Brajenjit Singha of Congress got 39,570 votes.
Nirmal Kumar Brahma of UPPL won the Sidli seat with a huge margin of 37,016 votes. He secured 95,243 votes. Suddho Kumar Basumatary of Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) secured the second spot with 58,227 votes.
The results of Dholai and Samaguri are awaited but BJP was leading by a decent margin in both the seats.
In Dholai, BJP’s Nihar Ranjan Das was leading with a margin of 9017 votes after 15 rounds of counting. The last round of counting is going on. He has polled 68,759 votes. He was trailed by Dhrubajyoti Purkayastha of Congress, who has secured 59,742 votes.
In Samaguri, BJP’s Diplu Ranjan Sarmah was leading with a huge margin of 22,833 votes. He has secured 78,789 votes after completion of 15 out of 16 rounds of counting. He was trailed by Congress’ Tanzil Hussain, who had secured 55,956 votes.
