Guwahati, Jan 21: Jairam Ramesh, Congress leader and Member of Parliament, in his recent social media post, claimed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s, involvement in an incident where the former’s vehicle was attacked in Jumugurihat, Sonitpur, during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, with the perpetrators tearing off stickers related to the yatra from the vehicle’s windshield.
The post also mentioned that water was thrown, and slogans against Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra were shouted.
Ramesh said that despite the attack, they maintained composure, waved to the alleged individuals, and managed to drive away from the scene.
Responding to the accusation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reposted the complaint on x and urged the concerned authorities to register a case and conduct a thorough inquiry into the allegations.
The Chief Minister tagged the Director-General of Police, Assam Police (@DGPAssamPolice), and the Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur (@gpsinghips), in his post, emphasising the need for a swift and impartial investigation.
