Guwahati, Nov 24: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday expressed his deep disappointment over the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) loss in the Jharkhand Assembly polls. Sarma, who was the party’s co-in-charge for the elections, described the defeat as “deeply painful” despite BJP’s sweeping success in Assam’s by-elections.
“I spent four months in Jharkhand, campaigning as a dedicated party worker. The loss is personally painful for me, even as we celebrate our victory in all five by-elections in Assam,” Sarma said.
Congratulating the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) for its impressive performance, Sarma emphasized that the BJP had campaigned with a vision to safeguard Jharkhand from infiltration and to propel it towards development.
“I have seen the relentless efforts of our Karyakartas in Jharkhand. We fought to protect the state from illegal infiltration and to fulfil the aspirations of students and youth. Unfortunately, the results did not reflect the dedication of our team,” he added.
Sarma also raised concerns over illegal migration in Jharkhand, urging the new government to take decisive action. “The state will face significant challenges due to infiltration. I appeal to the Jharkhand government to identify and address this issue effectively,” he said.
The BJP’s loss in Jharkhand comes as a setback, even as the party strengthens its position in Assam, highlighting the challenges of varying electoral landscapes.
