Guwahati, Oct 16: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday met the Acting High Commissioner of Singapore, H.E. Alice Cheng, in New Delhi to discuss ongoing developments in the investigation into the death of singer Zubeen Garg.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reiterated Assam’s formal request for full cooperation from the Singaporean authorities to assist Assam Police in pursuing all necessary leads connected to the case.

“In our meeting, I reiterated our request to the Singaporean authorities to extend their fullest cooperation to Assam Police, so we can realise our efforts to ensure justice for Zubeen Garg,” Sarma said after the meeting.

He added that the Acting High Commissioner assured him of Singapore’s full support in facilitating the investigation. “We have been assured of all possible support in this matter,” Sarma stated.

The meeting comes amid growing public demand for transparency and justice following Garg’s death, which has triggered widespread emotion across Assam and among the singer’s fans worldwide.

Assam has invoked the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) between India and Singapore to enable lawful exchange of information and evidence pertinent to the case. The move allows authorities in both countries to cooperate on criminal investigations through official legal channels, underscoring the state government’s commitment to a transparent and thorough probe.
