It needs to be mentioned that Amritpal Singh along with nine others were arrested by Punjab Police under the National Security Act in April 2023 and transported to Assam on a special flight. Since then they are lodged in Dibrugarh Jail and since a few days Amritpal Singh and his associates are on a hunger strike in Dibrugarh jail with a demand to shift them to Amritsar jail or face the consequences.

Although Assam CM has ruled aside the threat, State DGP GP Singh has said that the Assam Police is fully committed for the security of State CM.
