Assam Congress leaders switch to BJP ahead of elections

Guwahati, Mar 31: Two prominent leaders Gaurav Somani and Anuj Barkataky of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) have resigned from the party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state BJP headquarters in Guwahati on March 30.

APCC secretary Gaurav Somani cited dissatisfaction with the current leadership of the Assam Congress as the primary reason for his departure.


Somani’s resignation, addressed to the state party chief, highlighted the internal challenges faced by the Congress workers in Assam.

Anuj Barkataky, leader of the Charaideo district Congress committee and son of a former Congress minister in the state, also announced his decision to leave the party and joined BJP.
