Must read

Tura, Jan 19: North Garo Hills are scouting suspected forests and jungle hideouts to trace out the owner cum driver of a minivan who came from Krishnai town of Assam into Garo Hills and disappeared into thin air on January 15th.

According to police, businessman Hajiruddin, resident of Krishnai town of Goalpara district was passing through Tapa Darengchi village of North Garo Hills when his family lost all contact with him.

His elder brother approached Resubelpara police station and filed a missing person report, two days later in what is suspected to have been a demand note issued to the family by the culprits.

Police launched search operations and managed to locate his Tata Magic Ace mini-vehicle driven by Hajiruddin himself which was left in an uninhabited and secluded place in Tapa Danggre, near Tapa Darengchi under Resubelpara police station.

It is strongly suspected that kidnappers may have taken him into custody and kept him hidden to extract extortion money from the family.

Kidnapping for ransom is a menace for the north Garo Hills region bordering Assam for many years and there have been countless cases of kidnappings by local criminals in the Manikganj and Damra areas of Assam that touches the border with North Garo Hills.
