Guwahati, May 26: The Assam Forest Department today launched an operation at Rangapani No.3 village in the Kamrup district of Assam to rescue an endangered Python.
However, the Forest officials had to deal with the unexpected crowd that gathered at the scene, most of whom were busy recording the operation on their mobile phones.
Around one thousand people, including children and women, gathered at the spot, and many of them started shouting, which could have led the operation to failure.
But amid the chaotic situation, the brave forest officials somehow rescued the wild creature and took it safely away from the spot.
A local villager told this reporter, “A few farmers were taking shelter near the paddy field when they noticed a huge python. The python could have attacked them, or people might have harmed it. So, we called the forest department to rescue it. It was around 10-foot-long.”
It is worth mentioning that the Indian Rock Python, scientifically known as Python Molurus, is the largest snake species found in India. It is non-venomous and can be 16 to 20 feet long. This species is classified as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List.
