Guwahati, Dec 14: A grenade explosion occurred near the Lichubari Army camp in Assam’s Jorhat on Thursday evening.
After the explosion, as a precautionary measure, the main gate of the Lichubari Army camp was promptly closed.
No casualties have been reported so far.
According to reports, two motorcycle-borne individuals, believed to be ULFA(I) cadres, hurled the grenade towards the Army camp.
Notably, ULFA-I claimed responsibility for the blast after few minutes of the incident. ULFA(I) chief Paresh Baruah made phone calls to local television channels to take ownership of the attack.
Meanwhile, top police and district administration officials have rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
In less than one month this was the third such incident in upper Assam.
