Guwahati, June 19: Eight people have died in the last 24-hours in Assam as the state reels under flood caused by incessant rains with most of the rivers in the state following above danger level on Saturday. The devastating flood has, so far, affected 30 lakhs people in the State.
Altogether, 1.56 lakh people have been shifted to 514 relief camps and 4291 villages inundated in the state. Over 58,000 hectares of cropland has been submerged in flood water. In last one week, 24 people have died of flood and landslides.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday visited the flood affected Kamrup and Darrang districts and took stock of the ground situation and talked to the flood affected people with direction of adequate government help.

In view of surging water levels in rivers in Rangia inundating most parts of the town, visited affected areas to review ground situation. District Administration is ready to face any exigency and helping the flood affected people.

Sarma, during his visit, took stock of the flood situation prevailing in Rangia town and talked to the flood affected people taking shelter at Fatima Convent School in the town. He spent some time in the relief camp and took stock of the rescue, relief and rehabilitation works being undertaken by the sub-division administration in association with the district administration.
While talking to the camp inmates, he asked DC Kamrup Kailash Karthik N. to make available the relief materials in adequate quantity so that the affected people do not suffer from any shortage of essential commodities.
He also asked the DC to ensure medical facilities along with clean drinking water and hygiene in the relief camps. The Chief Minister also asked the DC and SDO (C) to reach out to the marooned people, evacuate them and put them in relief camps.
