Dibrugarh, Nov 12: Four people lost their lives when their car plunged into an under-construction culvert in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia early Tuesday morning.
The vehicle, a Swift Dzire, was carrying six family members travelling from Bihar to attend a wedding in Tinsukia. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on the bypass connecting Dihingia Gaon along the Tinsukia-Dibrugarh route. Police reported that the car, heading from Dibrugarh to Tinsukia, suddenly veered off the road and fell into the culvert.
Two other family members sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh for treatment. The victims were aged between 40 and 45, with a five-year-old child among the passengers.
Local residents promptly launched a rescue operation, assisting the injured and helping them get to the hospital. According to them, the accident was caused by the poor condition of the road, and they have urged authorities to expedite the bypass construction to prevent further tragedies.
Police have begun an investigation into the incident.
