Dibrugarh, Nov 14: A group of gamblers attacked a police team at Jerai in upper Assam Dibrugarh on Monday night.
“After getting specific inputs about gambling going on at Jerai area of Chabua, a team from the Bindhakata police patrol post went to bust the gambling den near a Kali temple in Jerai and they tried to intervene and stop the gambling; a heated argument occurred and the gamblers attacked the police team,” a local source said.
The police team found that several people had gathered there playing a dice-based gambling game.
A police source said that the in-charge of the patrol post was also attacked by the mob and the patrolling vehicle was also damaged.
“We have started an investigation into the case. All the accused are absconding. We are trying best possible way to nab them,” said a police official.
