Guwahati, May 13: In a significant boost to Assam’s hospitality and tourism infrastructure, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for two new hotel properties—Guwahati Marriott Resort and Spa and Fairfield by Marriott Guwahati—along the Guwahati Airport Road. The two state-of-the-art hotels are being developed by Jonali Constructions Private Limited at a combined investment of ₹500 crore, following an MoU signed during the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit.
Speaking at the bhoomipujan ceremony on May 11, the Chief Minister positioned the twin hotel projects as a turning point for Assam’s emergence as a destination wedding hotspot, drawing parallels with established Indian wedding hubs like Haryana and Karnataka. “Destination weddings are no longer the domain of just the elite or overseas locales,” Dr. Sarma said. “With growing interest in culturally rich and scenic Indian states, Assam is ready to seize this opportunity.”
Dr. Sarma also echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to promote Indian states as domestic wedding destinations—a vision articulated in the Mann Ki Baat programme. “We have world-class venues under development, a peaceful atmosphere, and a rich cultural heritage—from the Kamakhya temple to Kaziranga and Majuli. Assam is ready to host weddings of a lifetime,” he asserted.
Dr Sarma said with 11 five-star hotels in the pipeline, Guwahati is becoming a hub for global hospitality chains who are seizing the opportunity to cater to the huge demand in the region.

Both properties will feature expansive ballroom spaces and open lawns—facilities essential for hosting grand wedding celebrations. The Guwahati Marriott Resort and Spa will offer 196 rooms, while the Fairfield by Marriott Guwahati will have 288 rooms, supported by both underground and open parking. The location, just minutes from Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, offers easy access for out-of-state and international guests, making it ideal for large gatherings such as weddings and corporate events.
The completion of both the hotel projects is expected in 36 to 48 months.
Highlighting the broader vision behind the Advantage Assam 2.0 initiative, Dr. Sarma reiterated the government’s goal to foster a conducive environment for private investment. “These hotels will not only redefine luxury hospitality in the region but also unlock new socio-economic avenues—especially for our youth,” he said.

The Chief Minister added that such projects help shape the aspirations of the next generation by boosting employment, entrepreneurship, and tourism. He stressed the importance of maintaining a peaceful and stable environment to attract long-term investments. “When capital flows in, opportunities follow. These projects will benefit around 500 families directly or indirectly, and in time, they’ll transform the local economy,” he said.
