Guwahati, Aug 12: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday presented a cash reward of Rs 1 crore and offered the DSP post to Lovlina Borgohain for securing a bronze medal in boxing at the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics.
A felicitation programme was arranged at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati to felicitate Lovlina.

The Assam government has also decided to give Rs 10 lakh to the boxer’s coach.
Speaking at the programme, CM Sarma praised Lovlina for bringing bronze medal for India.
“Lovlina Borgohain, coming from a small village of Golaghat district has made us proud by bring medal for India in Tokyo Olympics. Lovlina has set an example for the young generation by defeating all challenges, she has brought laurels for Assam. There is lots of talent in Assam and we should find out talent where many talent like Lovlina can be found,” he said.
“A Sports project in the name of Lovlina Borgohain will be constructed in Sarupathar with a coat of Rs 25 crore. A road in Guwahati will be named after Lovlina Borgohain,” CM added.
Lovlina had reached Guwahati on Thursday morning. She was welcomed by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport.
The 23-year-old boxer said she is sad that she failed to win the gold medal in the Olympics.
Lovlina said, “First of all I thank the people of Assam for supporting me. I am so excited and thank you for your love and support. I regret not being able to go to my village (Baromukhia at Borpathar in Golaghat district) but am so happy to finally be here in my home state.”
