Assam: Guwahati police to reward 24 cops for cracking kidnapping & murder case of Biswajit Hazarika

Guwahati, Feb 14: Guwahati Police on Monday announced cash reward for all the police personnel who played a crucial role in solving the kidnapping and murder case of Biswajit Hazarika.

Talking to reporters, Guwahati police commissioner Diganta Borah said, “A total of 24 police officers were a part of the investigation team who cracked the case. We have decided cash reward for all the police personnel who were part of the investigation.”

“Biswajit Hazarika was kidnapped on the evening of October 9, 2022, when he was returning to his home in a rickshaw. After that the kidnappers sent a video of Biswajit and asked for a ransom of Rs 40 lakhs in exchange for the release of the victim,” Borah informed.

Borah further said, “On November 1, an unidentified body was found in Nellie area of Nagaon district which was later identified to be the body of Biswajit. On February 9, the parents of the victim appealed to police to investigate the case and requested the police to arrest the accused who was involved in murder of their son.”

“A police team was formed to investigate the case and arrested six persons in connection to the kidnapping and murder of Biswajit Hazarika,” he added.

The accused have been identified as Debajit Deka, Ajay Kalita, Pranab Ranghang, Sanjay Kumar Phagat, Paresh Chetri and Mayur Nath.

“The main mastermind behind the case was Ajay Kalita. Kalita had planned for kidnapping along with the other persons,” Borah said.
