Tura, May 12: The St. George Samanda Parish Youth Convention came to a powerful close on Saturday with a lively Spring Gospel Concert, marking the end of a spiritually enriching journey for over 150 young participants. Themed “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you,” the event brought together faith, music, and celebration.
Despite early downpours, the weather cleared just in time for the evening’s festivities, creating a warm atmosphere for the crowd that gathered to witness performances by renowned bands such as Fidem from Tura, DSP from Resubelpara, and other local talents. The evening opened with a welcome note from Parish Priest Fr. Jimbirth K. Marak, who thanked Leader of the Opposition and Songsak MLA Dr. Mukul Sangma for his financial support in organizing the convention.
Fr. Marak expressed pride in the youth turnout, highlighting that many had committed themselves to the spiritual growth of the parish through the convention. The concert featured not just soul-stirring music but also energetic dance performances that reflected the community’s vibrant spirit.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Dr. Mukul Sangma, who served as Chief Guest, and MDCs Alphonsus R. Marak (Williamnagar), Rinaldo K. Sangma (Rongrong), Cherak W. Momin (Karkutta), and Ferdinand D. Shira (Damas). All were felicitated during the evening.
In his address, Dr. Sangma commended Fr. Marak for his leadership and hailed the event as uplifting and spiritually fulfilling. He noted that such gatherings to glorify God are blessings in themselves. As the concert coincided with Mother’s Day, Dr. Sangma also paid tribute to all mothers, recalling the sacrifices of his own mother with deep emotion.
The highlight of the evening came when Dr. Sangma took the stage to sing the beloved hymn “How Great Thou Art,” joined by Fr. Marak and his team in a moving finale that left the audience spiritually charged and inspired.
