Guwahati, Dec 25: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has slammed the Congress party for neglecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s contributions and failing to honor his legacy in Assam.
Speaking at a public event, Sarma questioned why Congress had not named a single college in the state after Ambedkar, despite his crucial role in shaping India’s Constitution and democracy.
The Chief Minister, a former Congress member, also pointed out that Ambedkar’s portrait is conspicuously absent from the party’s headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan. Taking aim at the Gandhi family, Sarma accused them of sidelining Ambedkar’s contributions while selectively conferring the Bharat Ratna on others.
“Congress has awarded the Bharat Ratna to so many people, but not to Ambedkar,” Sarma said, criticizing the party for what he called a lack of genuine respect for the leader.
He further accused Congress of using Ambedkar’s name for political purposes, dismissing their efforts as mere theatrics and suggesting they “should consider joining theatre.”
