Guwahati, April 11: In a historic shift, the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) announced the results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination within just 37 days, marking a significant transformation in the state’s education system.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted this milestone as a step towards greater transparency and efficiency. Conducted for the first time by ASSEB, the HSLC exams were held from February 15 to March 3, with results declared on April 11.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu noted that Assam is now the second-fastest state in India to declare results, following Bihar, which did so in 30 days. He emphasized that the swift announcement will allow timely admissions into higher secondary courses post-Bihu holidays.
The 2025 HSLC exams introduced a major pedagogical shift, focusing on conceptual understanding rather than rote learning. Despite the transition, the pass percentage stood at 63.98%, a drop from last year’s 75.7%.

A remarkable highlight was the strong performance of marginalized communities, with Scheduled Tribes (Plains) achieving a 71.32% pass rate, surpassing the General category (63.45%). ST (Hills) students followed with 65.86%, while OBC and MOBC students secured 69.64% and 70.78%, respectively. Notably, tea tribe students crossed the 50% threshold for the first time with a 51.89% pass rate.
Sarma emphasized that these results reflect the impact of targeted welfare measures, scholarships, and academic reforms, paving the way for greater social mobility. The shift towards analytical learning, he said, aligns Assam’s education system with national standards and 21st-century academic goals.
