Assam: Indian Army troops plug breach in British-era dam in Digboi

Dibrugarh, Aug 11: The Soldiers of Indian Army stationed at Digboi Army Camp carried out revetment works on an old British Dam/ catchment near IOCL refinery.

The structure is of British vintage and was constructed to keep the waters of an artificial lake away from residential areas.

The project was undertaken on an emergent call recieved from officials of Digboi Refinery when a portion of the structure gave way to the water pressure of the lake.

To stop the water reaching from lower reaches of Digboi, troops from Digboi Army Camp responded swiftly and carried out revetment works within couple of hours and plugged the breach thus, ensuring the safety of the surrounding localities including Golai Block, Golai Gaon 2 & 3 and Nabjyoti Gaon, averting a serious disaster and saving precious lives.

Locals from the villages thanked the Army personnel for their prompt action.
