Guwahati, Nov 22: A 17-year-old minor girl was attacked with acid by her lover in Assam’s Barpeta district.

The incident reportedly took place on November 19 when the victim and her sister were returning from a local book fair.

The attacker has been identified as Rafijul Islam, and is reportedly a jilted lover of the victim.

According to police, the victim was rushed to the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital in Barpeta by the locals.

However, she was soon referred to the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital where she is currently admitted and is currently stated to be in a serious condition.

An FIR was lodged immediately after the incident and Rafiqul Islam was picked up by the police from his house at Bhinga village and placed under arrest.

“We have arrested Rafiqul Islam and started interrogating him. He has confessed his crime,” said a police official.

The minor girl hails from Kayakuchi in Sarukhetri constituency.
