Assam launches ‘SafeLine’ to prioritise workers’ safety

Must read

Guwahati, May 8: Assam has given a new lifeline to linemen who work under dangerous conditions to keep the lights on.

The Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has launched a bold new safety drive—SafeLine—to protect the lives behind the wires.

Unveiled in Guwahati by APDCL Chairman Syedain Abbasi in partnership with IntelliSmart Infrastructure, the campaign places frontline workers—often the unsung heroes of the power sector—at its very heart. The initiative promises structured safety training, field demonstrations, and a renewed focus on daily operational safety for linemen across Assam.

“Safety isn’t optional. It must be woven into the DNA of everything we do,” said Abbasi. “At APDCL, we are committed to creating a safety-first culture—because every life matters.”

The launch saw the participation of IntelliSmart MD & CEO Anil Rawal, who echoed this sentiment. “SafeLine isn’t just a campaign; it’s a conviction,” he noted. “Linemen are the backbone of the power sector, and their safety is our top priority.”

The program kicked off training for 150 linemen across seven sub-divisions—from Jagiroad to Kalaigaon—with plans to expand every month until year-end. Each phase will feature hands-on safety drills conducted by trained professionals from IntelliSmart.

One of the first beneficiaries of the initiative, Dadhiram Saikia, a lineman from Jhargaon, expressed gratitude.

“The training opened our eyes to simple steps that can save lives. It’s reassuring to see our chairman himself backing our safety,” he said.

The SafeLine campaign comes at a time when APDCL has been gaining national recognition for its turnaround, achieving sharp reductions in system losses and boosting consumer engagement. Alongside smart meter installations (over 9 lakh deployed so far by IntelliSmart), this new push for worker safety signals a holistic, people-first approach to powering Assam’s future.
