Guwahati, Dec 15: A dispute over cannabis consumption in Assam’s Rangapara area of Sonitpur district took a violent turn when a man set his friend on fire after dousing him with petrol.

The incident involved two individuals, identified as Sambhu Roy and Munu Baidya. According to eyewitnesses, the argument escalated rapidly, leading Baidya to pour petrol on Roy in a fit of rage before setting him ablaze.

“Sambhu Roy sustained severe burn injuries and was initially rushed to the Rangapara Primary Health Centre for emergency treatment,” said a local resident. Due to the critical nature of his injuries, he was later referred to Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) for specialized care.

Police have investigated the incident and assured that strict action will be taken against the accused.
