Shillong, Dec 15: The Border Committee of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council on Wednesday handed over the comprehensive report, with land records and maps of the areas under its jurisdiction especially of border areas, to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at the main Secretariat here in the city.
Speaking to reporters, KHADC CEM Titos Chyne lauded the Chief Minister for taking up the initiative in resolving the border issue with Assam that has been pending for decades. “This is our first meeting, it is also the first time in history of the council that we have prepared a comprehensive report regarding this matter (inter-state boundary),” informed the CEM.
On the contents of the report, he shared that the report covers all the views and recommendations of the members of KHADC, and the annexure including the sanad, the notification, and the maps prepared by all the Himas in the areas of differences.
“The government should consider according to the paragraph 20 of the 6th schedule — meaning all the villages, all the areas, which already include in the appendix of the early rules in 1952 should be the term and reference for discussing in proving that such areas belongs to Meghalaya,” stated Chyne.
The CEM also informed that the Chief Minister has assured that there will be no compromised with reference to para 20 of the 6th Schedule.
