Shillong, Oct 11: In a bid to resolve the interstate border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya, Chairman of Jaintia Hills District Regional Committee Sniawbhalang Dhar on Monday informed that Assam and Meghalaya made their first visit on Saturday (October 9, 2021).
As decided, Ministers from both the states met at Cachar and visited Ratacherra village in East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.
Dhar also the minister in-charge of Urban Affairs informed that it was a positive meeting and concerns were shared from both sides.
“We couldn’t make much from the first visit and will have to make a second visit. So far there is no such dispute. There is a plus minus. Both sides shared their documents and records,” mentioned Dhar.
A meeting was held at wayside amenity of Tourism Department at Ratacherra village during the first visit since the formation of the regional committee’s of Assam and Meghalaya.
The delegations who were part of the meeting and first visit were Meghalaya Home Minister Lakhmen Rymbui, MLA Shitlang Pale, Assam Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, MLA Katigorah Khalil Uddin Mazumder, Deputy Commissioners of Cachar and East Jaintia Hills District, Keerthi Jalli and E Kharmalki respectively along with Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur, Circle Officer of Katigorah Kaveri Rongpipi also took part in the meeting.
Terming the first meeting as a positive one, Dhar informed that after the second meeting, which is likely to be before October 30, the committee will be able to submit their report.
