Shillong, Oct 11: RTI activist Disparsing Rani on Monday stated that the land used for cremation and funeral in Mawkhan Pasir under Mylliem syiemship actually does not belong to anyone but is a “No man’s land”.

Addressing a press conference, Rani said the land at present was claimed  by Seng Khasis, Catholics and the Dorbar of Mawkhan  Pasir under Mylliem, East Khasi Hills. But according to his findings, the particular land does not belong to any particular faith or Shnong, and, in his words, is a “No man’s land”.

As per the “History Lyngkot”, some part of land of the burial place was allotted for graveyard to the Balang Catholic Mawkhan Pasir by the Dorbar Shnong in the year 1932. The boundaries of the graveyard land of the Lem Balang Catholic Mawkhan is based on a copy of a documentary statement issued by the Rangbah Shnong and Secretary of Mawkhar Pasir village.

The Seng Khasi Mawkhan Pasir had prayed before the Dorbar Shnong Mawkhan Pasir village to allot them a piece of land suitably for cremation as well as for construction of the crematorium within the village.

The Rangbah Shnong of the Dorbar Shnong had also expressed his willingness to allot a piece of land to Seng Khasi Mawkhan Pasir for cremation as well as for construction of the crematorium.
