Helmeted duo pull off ₹12 Lakh heist in broad daylight in DC office gate

Dibrugarh, June 22: In a shocking daylight robbery that has sparked concerns over security at one of Dibrugarh’s most sensitive government complexes, motorcycle-borne snatchers allegedly robbed a man of gold chains worth nearly ₹12 lakh right outside the District Commissioner’s Office on Monday afternoon.

The daring incident took place around 3 pm at the entrance of the DC Office premises, a location that witnesses heavy public movement and is routinely guarded by security personnel.

The victim, Hrishikesh Goswami of Lahowal’s Madarkhat area, had reportedly arrived at the office for official work when two helmeted men on a motorcycle targeted him as he climbed the steps leading to the building.

According to eyewitness accounts, one of the accused pushed Goswami to the ground before snatching two gold chains from his neck. The duo then sped away from the scene before bystanders could react.

Alarmed onlookers raised cries of “thief, thief” and attempted to alert others, but the suspects managed to escape within seconds.

The victim sustained injuries to his hand and leg in the fall, while his mobile phone was also damaged during the scuffle.

“It happened so fast. One of them pushed me and before I could react, the chains were gone,” Goswami told reporters.

The victim is the son of the Satradhikar of the prominent Mayamora Madarkhat Satra in Lahowal.

Following the incident, a complaint was lodged at the Milan Nagar Police Outpost, and police have registered a case. Investigators are now examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the accused and trace their escape route.

The audacious robbery, carried out in broad daylight at the entrance of a key government office, has triggered public outrage and renewed questions over security arrangements at the DC Office complex.

Police said an investigation is underway and efforts are being made to apprehend the culprits at the earliest.
