Boko, June 26: The North-East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), Govt. of India, in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru College, Boko, and EduRade as the training partner, has set up an RPTO (Remote Pilot Training Organisation), popularly known as Drone Pilot.
The RPTO aims to impart skill enabling and enhancing requirements to gear up with 21s Century demands for the people of North-East India as a whole and Assam in particular. Additionally, it aligns with the vision of PM Narendra Modi to establish India as a global drone hub by 2030.
The new center established at Jawaharlal Nehru College, Boko, is the third RPTO in the northeast and the first one at the college level in the Northeast. The two other RPTOs were set up at Tech City near Guwahati airport and IIT Guwahati.
The new RPTO was officially inaugurated with the first Women batch on 25 June at Jawaharlal Nehru College, Boko.
Dr Tapan Dutta, principal of J N College Boko, said that this is a very important day for the college and the state that a center of RPTO or Drone Pilot Training Center has opened in the college. Drone training started at the college level for the first time in Assam. “After getting permissions from the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), in collaboration with NECTAR, we officially launched the training programs in our college” he added.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Aruna Kumar Sarma, Director General of NECTAR, said, “The first batch of this training will be conducted for the women who came from Meghalaya, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Assam. A total of 10 women from the five states will get the five days long training free of cost under the central government scheme of Drone DiDi.”
Informing about the eligibility criteria to be eligible for the Drone Didi, he said that the trainees are nominated by their state governments. He further added that the central government is initiating to build up the drone concept at the village level and through the scheme and financial support in terms of low-interest loans to buy drones. Drone training is very important in many sectors, including agriculture, defense, media, and many others.
“Our country needs more than 1 lakh drone pilots instead of having only 10 to 20 thousand drone pilots. That is why NECTAR established this drone pilot training center in the college. So that youths will be attracted to this and will be future drone pilots. We are also targeting our neighbor countries like Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, etc. Because they too lack Drone pilots, they will come here and can easily take the drone pilot training”, he added.
A day-long program was held in the college premises on the occasion of the inauguration of the RPTO center. Smt. Laya Madduri, IAS, Secretary to Govt. of Assam, took part as chief guest along with the Boko MLA Nandita Das, Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma, The Director General of NECTAR, many other distinguished guests, and college students took part in the program. After the meeting, the NECTAR team demonstrated various drones which are used in various sectors.
