Guwahati, April 19: Assam Congress leader Debabrata Saikia on Wednesday said it was a political agenda and an attempt to tarnish Indian National Congress(INC) image.
Talking to reporters, opposition leader Debabrata Saikia said, “This is supposed to be an internal matter. It should not have gone out to the public domain. However, Angkita Dutta has made some tweets and naturally it has gone to public domain and as a consequence yesterday itself the accused person Indian Youth Congress president Srinivas BV sent a legal notice to Angkita Dutta seeking explanation and apology.”
“Now, I have seen that the National Commission for Women has stepped in. In the circumstances and the way things have developed, I am quite certain of the political motive behind all this. I cannot put the blame on anybody without ascertaining the facts. But it is very much apparent that the way the National Commission for Women stepped in the matter, it was a plan to tarnish the image of Congress,” Saikia said.
He further added, “Srinivas BV belongs to Karnataka and Congress has a prospect in Karnataka election because the election is going to happen in the state. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have campaigned in the state and got a good response.”
In a series of tweets on Tuesday, All India Youth Congress’s (IYC) Assam unit President Angkita Dutta has accused that her colleague and IYC chief Srinivas BV has mentally harassed and humiliated her over her gender.
Talking to media persons, Angkita Dutta said, “This has been happening repeatedly, in fact last week also. I had complained within the organisation for months but nothing has happened. I am on the verge of losing self-respect now because I am educated and work on women’s issues. IYC in-charge comes to Assam and calls me ‘hei ladki’, ‘iss ladki’ not addressing me as Dr Dutta or Angkita Dutta. After that I complained to the leadership that this had happened. Then in the Chhattisgarh Raipur session, I was going inside the hotel and IYC chief Srinivas was coming out. We stopped to have a conversation but Srinivas told me that ‘tum kya likhte hai… tum kya daru peeke likhta hai. Kya pita hai ‘vodka or tequila’. This was what the youth Congress president told me, to the only female youth Congress president.”
