Jowai, April 19: The Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) held a public meeting in Iawmusiang, Jowai, on Wednesday to discuss the Reservation Policy and the implementation of the Roster System in the state. The meeting was led by VPP Chief and MLA from Nongkrem Constituency, Ardent Basaiawmoit.
During his speech, Basaiawmoit stated that the party had demanded a special session to discuss the matter but it was rejected. He further stated that the party will continue to press for a review of the Reservation Policy and the constitution of a committee for the same.
Basaiawmoit also demanded an immediate stop to employment under the Roster System until the matter is solved because, according to the population of the three major tribes of the state, the current Reservation Policy is unjustified.
Furthermore, Basaiawmoit reiterated that the 36 MLAs from Khasi and Jaiñtia Hills should take the matter seriously. He urged the people from Khasi and Jaiñtia Hills to work together on this matter, which will benefit future generations.
During the meeting, a senior resident from Jowai, OR Challam, also spoke on the issue.
