Guwahati, Feb 18: In a major crackdown, eight gamblers, including the bodyguard of BJP Member of Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA), Pradeep Bayan, were arrested in Bikni, Chirang, Assam, on Saturday night.
The arrested gamblers have been identified as Pranav Saikia (44), who is from Bijni Police Station and serves as the bodyguard of Manneet Parishad Pradeep Bayan, along with Diganta Gowala (37), Biswajit Das (37), Nilkamal Roy (36), Raj Halai (33), and Poonai Roy (30) of Satianguri.
“After receiving a tip-off, we launched an operation on the illegal gambling racket and apprehended the gamblers. We confiscated ₹12,550 in cash from their possession. They have been brought to Bijni police station for further investigation,” said a police official.
He added that the gamblers had been operating the gambling dens for a long time in abandoned houses near Bijni railway station.
