Assam Police seize Yaba tablets worth ₹2 crore

Guwahati, Feb 5: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Assam Police arrested a drug peddler and seized Yaba tablets worth ₹2 crores in South Salmara Mankachar district on Wednesday.

The arrested individual has been identified as Abdul Azid (32), a resident of Rajabala Bhaluk Kandi village in the district.

Based on specific intelligence, the operation was led by the Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ), along with OC South Salmara Police Station, SI Jayanta Rajkhowa, and a team from the South Salmara Police Station. The team successfully apprehended Azid at his residence and seized a large consignment of Yaba tablets.

Police sources revealed that the narcotics were smuggled from Meghalaya. The seized items included 7,800 Yaba tablets weighing 771 grams, packed in 39 blue packets and further concealed in five cream-colored plastic packets. A mobile handset was also confiscated.

According to officials, Azid procured the tablets from Phulbari Bazar under Phulbari Police Station in West Garo Hills, Meghalaya.

“His primary objective was to distribute the narcotics among local consumers and other peddlers. He has been taken into custody for further interrogation. The entire seizure process was documented on video in the presence of independent witnesses,” a police official stated.
