Guwahati, Dec 30: Assam Police is back with its quirky yet impactful DJ Lockup campaign to curb drunk driving and road fatalities during the festive season. The campaign, first launched in 2022, combines humour, pop culture, and hard-hitting messages to urge partygoers to celebrate responsibly.

Assam Police warns, “Party responsibly or meet the ultimate party crasher: #DJLockup. He’s spinning behind bars…and trust us, it’s not the vibe you want. Don’t drink and drive.”
Another post invites revellers to a hypothetical #DJLockup Night, boasting a star lineup featuring DJ Breathalyzer, MC Seatbelt, DJ No-Drunk-Driving, and DJ Sober Rider feat. The Safe Squad. With a dress code of helmets, seatbelts & good decisions, the campaign humorously underscores the importance of road safety.
Assam Police’s creative posts include a “hottest New Year deal” offering a night free from handcuffs and hangovers for those who choose sober driving. Through memes inspired by Bollywood classics like ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge Par Drunk Driver Nahi’ and ‘Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara Seatbelt Lagao’, the campaign has made a splash across social media.
The initiative has not only garnered attention within India but has inspired police forces in UP, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Hyderabad, Shimla, and even as far as Africa and Europe to adopt similar strategies.
Every year, road accidents spike during festive seasons, with drunk driving being a major cause of fatalities. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has backed the campaign, appealing to the public to refrain from mixing alcohol with driving.
