Guwahati, June 9: A woman from Assam’s Tinsukia, who was attacked by her father-in law, died at AMCH in Dibrugarh during her treatment.
The woman has been identified as Sangeeta Sah of Tinsukia.
“On June 4, Sangeeta was brutally attacked by her father-in law Harinder Prasad due to family dispute. Sangeeta, who was six-month pregnant, when she was attacked by the enraged father-in law. She was immediately rushed to Tinsukia Civil Hospital. Later, doctor advised to shift her at AMCH,” said a local resident.
Despite five days of medical efforts, her life could not be saved. The incident took an even more devastating turn as the six-month-old foetus in her womb also lost its life.
“On the night of June 6, she developed an infection which ultimately led to her demise. Tragically, she was pregnant, and her unborn baby also succumbed to the complications,” said a relative of Sangeeta.
He said, “She was responding to the treatment. She seemed to be fine until June 6. We observed her body movement, indicating sign of recovery. Suddenly, her health deteriorated on Friday and she died during the treatment.”
Harinder Prasad has already surrendered before Tinsukia police, and sent to jail.
“My daughter in law has been creating problem for last several days with me after I wanted to install CCTV camera at my house. For last several days, they didn’t allow me to install the camera and behaved badly with me,” Harinder told media persons in Tinsukia police station on June 4.
Harinder is a resident of Tinsukia’s Manav Kalyan road and lived with his son and daughter.
