Guwahati, Sept 15: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Assam is one of the top five growing states in India with 13.9% GSDP and 12.84% in terms of per capita income in 2023-24.
Speaking at a programme, Assam CM Sarma said, “In 2023 when we reflect the last two-three years, our state is one among the few states in India that has continued to improve the economy. Assam has registered a growth of 13.9% in terms of GSDP and 12.84% in terms of per capita income in 2023-24, making it one of the top five fastest growing states in the country.”
“When we look at the Economy Survey, presented by the Finance Minister of India before the Parliament, you will see above Assam there are four states which have registered 12% growth in the fiscal year 2023-24,” he said.
He further said irrespective of the volume of economy, and the percentage of the growth today, Assam has emerged as the top five growing states in the country in 2023-24. He also stated that Assam’s unemployment rate has decreased from 8% to 6% in the same period, whereas no other state in the country has been able to bring down its unemployment rate.
“Today Assam can boast as one of the investment friendly states in the country. We have implemented policies which will encourage the investment sector. The overall private-public investment which will be the first semi-conductor assembling unit with an investment of Rs. 50,000 crore. Tata’s investment in the semi-conductor unit is upto Rs. 27,000 crore which will directly benefit 27,000 direct and indirect unemployment,” he informed.
He further informed that Reliance has chosen Assam to set up bio-refinery. They will set up six bio-refineries in the country and Assam will be one of the states where they will set the refinery.
Taking to X, Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “Assam has received Rs. 50,000 cr of investments in the last 3 years. Tata, Adani, Reliance, Airbus, Pepsi and Dassault are some of the big enterprises which will be investing in the state.”
