Assam: Red Shield Assam Badminton tournament begins in Tinsukia

Dibrugarh, Oct 19: The much-anticipated Red Shield Assam Badminton Tournament was officially inaugurated on Friday in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia.

Many prominent persons from Army and civil administration witnessed the event.

The tournament is organized by the Indian Army in association with Assam Badminton Association, which marks a key event under Indian Army’s Operation Sadbhavna programme.

The tournament is aimed at promoting sports, fitness and nurturing local badminton talent.

The tournament will witness young badminton players from across the state compete in two categories namely Under 15 Boys and Girls and Under 19 Boys and Girls. It offers an exciting platform for emerging badminton players to showcase their skills and compete for attractive prizes.

The lucrative prize money includes Rs 50,000 for winners and Rs 25000 for the runner up in each category for boys and girls.

Indian Army, through this tournament, seeks to encourage youth to adopt a healthier lifestyle and foster a passion for sports. This initiative is not only focused on fitness but also on uplifting local talent, providing a stage for Assam’s young players to shine.

The tournament is set to witness exciting matches from October 18 to 21 and the local community is being encouraged to support these promising player’s competing for top honours.
