Agartala, Dec 22: In a significant crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking, a joint operation by the Assam Rifles, Customs Department, and Tripura Police resulted in the seizure of 3.9 lakh yaba tablets worth ₹78 crores in the international market.

Acting on intelligence inputs, security forces intercepted the consignment near General Area Gandacharra, about 35 kilometres from Teliamura. The swift operation led to the arrest of Rakesh Miya (33), son of Manik Miya, from Melaghar, Sonamura, who was transporting the drugs.

Yaba tablets, notorious for their devastating effects on individuals and communities, have been a favoured commodity for drug syndicates targeting vulnerable populations.

The operation highlights the resolute efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the menace of drug trafficking in the region. A senior official lauded the success, stating, “The recovery of such a massive quantity of drugs is a testament to the unparalleled dedication and intelligence capabilities of our forces.”

This bust, coinciding with the Union Home Minister’s visit to the state, underscores the synergy between Assam Rifles, Customs, and Tripura Police in countering organized crime. It also reinforces Tripura’s position as a stronghold against drug syndicates, signalling a safer and more prosperous future for the region.
