Guwahati, Oct 31:In a significant anti-drug operation, Assam Rifles intercepted a vehicle in Tripura on Wednesday, seizing drugs valued at Rs 18 crore. The contraband, smuggled from Myanmar and routed through Mizoram and southern Assam, was discovered at Narangbari in West Tripura district. Inside the vehicle’s concealed compartments, officials uncovered 90,000 Yaba tablets. Two individuals, the driver and his associate, were taken into custody.
The seized drugs, along with the vehicle and apprehended suspects, have been handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for further legal proceedings.
In a related operation, Assam Rifles and Mizoram’s Excise and Narcotics Department confiscated 10.7 grams of heroin and 8 kg of marijuana (ganja), estimated at Rs 13.41 lakh, in Zote, Champhai district on the Myanmar border. A 39-year-old drug smuggler, identified as Thanglianmanga from Champhai, was arrested in the raid.
