Assam Rifles to vacate battalion headquarter at Aizawl, shift to Zokhawsang by 2025

Aizwal, Oct 26: The Assam Rifles would vacate its battalion headquarter at Aizawl and shift to Zokhawsang next year under a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed between the Mizoram government and the paramilitary force.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma made the announcement in a press briefing on Saturday and said the MoA was signed on Wednesday last at Mizoram House, New Delhi.

The signatories to the agreement were Commissioner and Secretary (GAD), Vanlaldina Fanai and Lt. General Vikas Lakhera, Director General of Assam Rifles.

The two officials signed the agreement in the presence of Chief Minister Lalduhoma and other officials from the Mizoram government and the Assam Rifles.

The Chief Minister informed that the agreement will come into effect from April 1, 2025, and the construction of necessary facilities at Zokhawsang is on.

According to the MoA, the Assam Rifles will continue to occupy the headquarters 23 Sector (Mizoram range) which is about 95.88 acres and the DIG’s residence measuring 0.850 acres located next to the southern gate of the Raj Bhavan.

However, the Assam Rifles would vacate the Chitte River (Dhobi Nallah), which is about 62.8 acres, Church area and Assam Rifles Church (0.63 acres) and land and all movable and immovable assets at Babutlang, Zarkawt measuring (0.453 acres).

The paramilitary force would instead be handed over Lammual AR ground and its surrounding places, which includes the main barrack complex, unit hospital and AR Ground (25.94 acres).

The land and building at Loch House, the residence of battalion Commandant (1.1 acres), Quarter Guard Hill Complex (14.5 acres), school area (1.00 acres) and War Memorial and Mandir (0.78 acres) would also be handed over to the Assam Rifles under the agreement.

Lalduhoma further said, the Mizoram government will pay a depreciated cost to Assam Rifles by April 2025 and all the places handed over by the Assam Rifles will be reserved for public purpose under Mizoram (Restriction on Use of Transferred Land) Act, 2022.
