Guwahati, Sept 20: After soaring temperatures in Assam, some of the district including Kamrup Metro and Dibrugarh have implemented advanced school timings to protect students from extreme heat.
The guidelines recommend that schools adjust their schedules to begin earlier in the day, starting at 7:30 AM, and conclude before noon. Additionally, school assemblies are to be held indoors with shortened durations to minimize exposure to heat.
To enhance student comfort, schools are encouraged to allow students to forgo waistcoats and ties, permitting the wearing of sandals for those who find shoes uncomfortable.
The new measures also include ensuring access to ample drinking water, and encouraging students to wear comfortable clothing for their well-being.
Schools are also required to maintain functional fans and ensure proper classroom ventilation, with alternative power arrangements prepared in case of outages.
Dibrugarh has been experiencing heatwave-like condition in recent days, recording a maximum temperature of 38 degrees on Friday.
