Guwahati, Jan 31: Indian Police Officer (IPS) officer GP Singh took charge as Assam Director General of Police (DGP) on Tuesday.
Singh replaced Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta who is retiring after the completion of his tenure.
He has been appointed as Director General of Police & Head of Police Force for the state of Assam with effect from February 1, 2023.
After his appointment as Assam DGP, Singh thanked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and said he looks forward to the opportunity of serving the people of the state.
“With the blessings of Maa Kamakhya, I look forward to the opportunity of serving the people of Assam. Gratitude to the Honourable Chief minister Assam for reposing trust in me to lead the glorious Assam Police. @assampolice @CMOfficeAssam,” he tweeted.
Born on November 8th, 1967, to Late Krishna Singh & Late MP Singh, Gyanendra Pratap Singh is an Indian Police Service officer of the 1991 batch of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre.
Hailing from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, he did his schooling and higher education at Lucknow.
He also led the multi-agency Anti Rhino poaching task force of the Government of Assam and was instrumental in ensuring Zero Rhino poaching in 2022 for the first time in a period of 45 years.
