Guwahati, April 5: Tension escalated in Assam’s Lakhimpur district after a man attacked the Gram Pradhan (village headman) on Friday over an undisclosed issue.
According to reports, Chida Das, a wanted criminal with multiple theft cases registered at Panigaon Police Station, attacked village headman Bishnu Kumar Das at his residence in Bochagaon.
Speaking to reporters, Bishnu Kumar Das said, “Chida arrived at my residence with a machete around 7 a.m. and threatened me for making the gift presentation public. He intimidated me for revealing the news. When I tried to explain, he vandalized my furniture and television set.”

He further stated that after receiving information, a team from Panigaon Police Station arrived at his residence and launched an investigation.
However, after the police left, Chida returned to the village headman’s house and issued further threats. He also misbehaved with the village headman’s wife.
Chida Das, a history-sheeter wanted by the police, had received a Rongali Bihu gift from the Chief Minister—intended for eminent persons in society.
