Guwahati, Feb 8: Three persons have been arrested in connection with a moral policing case from Assam’s Hailakandi district on Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Nizamuddin Borbhuyan, Aklashuddin Barbhuiya and Salma Begum Barbhuiya.
The development comes after the Assam DGP GP Singh asked the police to take lawful action against the perpetrators immediately.
“‘ReferenceHailakandi viral video of torture – the main accused Nizamuddin Borbhuyan has been arrested by @HailakandiPolic along with three others. Lawful action follows. @assampolice @CMOfficeAssam,” the Assam DGP tweeted.
In a shocking video, which went viral, it features a young boy tied to a tree being beaten by another man. His head was shaved off and the man urinated on him.
“We have arrested three persons in connection with the case. The primary accused Nizamuddin Barbhuiya has been arrested. He was earlier arrested in connection to smuggling of banned substances,” said Hailakandi SP Nabneet Mahanta.
While talking to reporters, victim Biraj Paul said he was assaulted and humiliated.
“I went to Nizamuddin Barbhuiya’s residence to collect four cases of drugs (heroin) in exchange of Rs 2000. I paid him 2000 and he asked me to collect the cases from the box myself. I went to the box and took five cases instead of four, which his mother noticed. Realising that I have been spotted, I threw one of the five cases and volunteered to get searched when confronted,” Biraj Paul said.
