Guwahati, June 5: Two persons were reportedly shot dead and other others sustained bullet injury in an incident of firing along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border at Panbari in Dhemaji district on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Boga Churia and Monitur Gogoi of Dhemaji. According to reports, a group of armed men from Arunachal Pradesh came and opened fire on the people on the Assam side who were planting saplings on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The situation has been tensed along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border after the incident.
According to police, Boga Chutia died on the spot while Monitur Gogoi died on the way to hospital. The injured have been identified as Pushpa Gogoi and Akoni Gohain.
Dhemaji Deputy Commissioner, Ankur Bharali, and SP, Ranjan Bhutan, have rushed to the spot.
According to reports, three more individuals have been reportedly abducted by unidentified miscreants following the violent incident.
Meanwhile, security forces deployed along the border have initiated a search operation to locate and rescue the abducted individuals.
Speaking to reporters, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Till now we cannot demarcate our boundary. Generally, neighbouring states don’t attack us. Some people of the states do such activity for grabbing land. Police will investigate the matter and take action according to the law.”
