Meghalaya State Volleyball Association seeks affiliation with MSOA to promote Volleyball

Shillong, June 5: The Meghalaya State Volleyball Association (MSVA) took a significant step towards promoting volleyball in the state by meeting with the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) on Monday. Led by MLA Sanbor Shullai, who is also the President of MSVA, the association submitted a formal letter requesting affiliation with MSOA. The meeting, held at the MSOA office in JN Stadium, Polo Grounds, aimed to discuss the affiliation process and its importance, especially with the inclusion of volleyball in the upcoming 5th Meghalaya Games scheduled for this year.

During the meeting, Sanbor Shullai, along with P T Passah (Working President), KV Kharlyngdoh (Vice President), Gilbert Laloo (Assistant Secretary, MSVA), and other officials, met with John F. Kharshiing, Working President of MSOA, to present their request. The representatives also informed the MSOA officials that they had previously met Finely L. Pariat, General Secretary of MSOA, to discuss the matter.

Kharshiing acknowledged the request and informed the MSVA officials that once all the necessary documents are submitted, the MSOA office would process the affiliation. The meeting was also attended by PB War Nongbri, Assistant Director of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA), and other relevant individuals.

Apart from discussing the affiliation process, the meeting also highlighted the need to activate and promote the MSVA at the district level. Volleyball enjoys popularity and active participation in several districts across Meghalaya. The Working President of MSOA encouraged the MSVA officials to proceed with their preparatory activities while simultaneously ensuring the timely completion of document submission for affiliation. It was emphasized that volleyball is recognized as an official sport in prestigious events such as the National Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and the Olympics.
