Assam: Union Minister Sonowal expresses concern over Diarrhoea outbreak at Tongna Tea Estate in Tinsukia

Dibrugarh, May 22: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has expressed profound concern over the recent outbreak of diarrhoea-like illness resulting in the unfortunate demise of 11 individuals at Tongona Tea Estate in Tinsukia.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, Minister Sonowal communicated directly with the Chief Secretary of the Government of Assam, Ravi Kota, and the District Commissioner of Tinsukia, Swapnil Pal, to assess the situation and directed the officials to provide immediate assistance.

Expressing his heartfelt condolences, Sarbananda Sonowal extended prayers for the departed souls. He offered his deepest condolences to the affected families. Sonowal has directed the concerned authorities to take adequate measures and ensure the well-being of the residents of Tomgona Tea Estate.

Earlier, we reported that at least 11 individuals died from diarrhoea-like illness in one week, as claimed by the Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Association (ATTSA), Tinsukia district committee. However, the state health department has not officially declared any official details related to the deaths in the Tongonagaon tea estate area.

Meanwhile, Labour and Tea Tribes Welfare Minister Sanjay Kishan visited the garden and assessed the situation.
