Shillong, Aug 29: Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma on Thursday expunged a statement made by the opposition VPP chief and Nongkrem legislator, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, while moving a short duration discussion in the Assembly.
Sangma said that the mover of the short duration discussion had used certain words which are inappropriate or unparliamentary and therefore such remarks cannot be allowed to be part of the proceedings of the House.
“Therefore, the unparliamentary remarks used by the members will be expunged from the proceedings of the House. This is my ruling,” pronounced the Speaker.
Basaiawmoit while moving a short duration discussion relating to the appointment of teachers had accused the education minister Rakkam A Sangma of making hate speech.
While demanding action, Basaiawmoit requested the chief minister or deputy chief minister to reply on the issue.
Deputy chief minister in-charge parliamentary affairs, Prestone Tynsong, had termed the remarks made by Basaiawmoit as personal charge against the minister.
The VPP also staged a walkout as a mark of protest against the decision to allow the education minister Rakkam A Sangma to reply in the Assembly without taking action against him.
